What are LPR cameras?

LPR cameras are advanced traffic sensors used to capture and digitalize images from license plates. This is called License Plate Recognition (LPR). For LPR to be useful it has to be done in real-time (20ms or less) and with very high precision (99% or more); Regular video cameras can't do this.

Equipped with special hardware and firmware, LPR cameras instantly recognize, capture and analyze the license plate image, performing additional operations beyond the regular OCR (Optical Character Recognition), specific to License Plates (and to every region plate design!); this makes the digitalization process possible in complex/extreme conditions such as moving targets, very open angles, poor ambiance light, fog, dirt, etc.

Specialized LPR cameras perform the whole LPR process without the intervention of external equipment or software.
