Gainesville Regional Airport

Survision LPR cameras for the parking at Gainesville Regional Airport, primary commercial service airport according to The National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems 2015

Challenge

Previously, at Gainesville Regional Airport, the License Plate Inventory (LPI) process relied on disconnected on-foot agents to manually record license plate information from its norm of 650 parking spots, a process which takes about 2 hours to complete. This approach faced significant limitations, particularly when the volume of vehicles reached capacity at 950 vehicles. Moreover, after each LPI gathering trip, agents had to painstakingly transfer the collected data to the server back at the office. This manual and time-consuming process posed challenges in terms of efficiency and accuracy.

Solution

Designa decided to use LPI to GO, Survision’s innovative Mobile LPI Solution to address these challenges. This solution leverages Automatic License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology from a moving vehicle, offering a substantially more effective alternative to the previous method that relied on on-foot agents.

A security vehicle patrolling the airport parking lots equipped with Survision’s LPI to GO system, based on Picopak, the world’s smallest LPR Camera.

As it moves, Picopak automatically captures and records the license plate information of parked vehicles. This data is then instantly processed and made available for analysis, eliminating the need for manual entry and significantly reducing the margin for error.

What sets LPI to GO apart is its portability, lightness, and adaptability to virtually any vehicle. It seamlessly integrates with existing fleets, making it a practical and cost-effective choice for airport management.

In practice, this solution dramatically improves the availability of data for efficient License Plate Inventory management. It empowers airport authorities to promptly address various critical tasks such as tracking lost tickets, identifying potential frauds, locating wanted vehicles, enhancing security checks, and providing superior customer service. The real-time data accessibility offered by LPI to GO not only enhances operational efficiency but also elevates the overall passenger experience at Gainesville Regional Airport.

Results

At Gainesville Regional Airport, agents can now complete their inventory in 30 min: less than 25% of the time!, a significant improvement, as it allows them to gather LPI data more quickly and efficiently. This information can be used to improve traffic management, identify stolen vehicles, and prevent crime.

  • Time savings: The previous LPI process took several hours to complete. The process can be completed in as little as half an hour with LPI to GO.
  • Increased accuracy: LPR technology is highly accurate, reducing human error risk.
  • Improved efficiency: LPI to GO is a portable and easy-to-use system that can be operated by a single agent.

Overall, the implementation of LPI to GO has been a success for Gainesville Regional Airport. It has improved the LPI process’s efficiency, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness.
